Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is Daniela Groza, I am 19 years old and I am a student at the Edinburgh College of Art studying Jewellery and Silversmithing and I am writing to you because I am interested in a work experience placement for the summer, where I could develop my skills through working as your intern.
I am ambitious, hard-working, a keen listener, therefore I want to gain as much knowledge as possible in the field, and I am willing to learn any new type of skills, do any type of task that you require , and give you a hand with anything it is that you may need.
Every summer since I was nine years old, I would leave Bucharest to spend the summer in San Diego with my aunt and uncle. My uncle is now battling cancer and it has affected me enormously. During the school year 2015-2016, I volunteered weekly with the “Little People” association, doing therapeutic activities at the Oncological Institute of Bucharest, with children sick with cancer. My natural response to all this suffering and courage was to search for pictures of cancer cells on the web, to draw what I saw, leading to a unique piece of jewellery.
I have always made things with my hands, starting as a child with keychains and bracelets out of lanyard strings. When I was thirteen, I started taking wirework and beading classes at the South Sun bead store in San Diego, and I continued for many summers, progressing from beginner level to their most advanced classes. I got used to being the youngest person in the courses by several decades. During summer 2015, I interned with a fashion designer at her bridal store. She allowed me to experiment with various techniques, styles, and materials, enabling me to discover the delicacy of bridal products while creating far beyond the traditional pearl necklace. Some of my work, including headpieces and bracelets, were displayed at a fashion show in Rancho Bernardo, California.
In Bucharest, I attended a bi-lingual high school ( 2012- 2016). During 2015-2016 I would take private painting lessons weekly, after school and joined a course in silversmithing with David Sandu in Bucharest. I have created a successful Facebook page, “Danny’s Jewels,”and I have sold a number of pieces. I take most of the pictures on my page, as I am also passionate about Photography.
There is something amazing about jewellery. Each piece has its individual flare, being alluring adornments, particles of seduction dedicated to the human body, reflecting the personality of both the creator and the wearer.
I am currently a student at the Edinburgh College of Art. I have been here since September 2016. I have developed enormously since I have started and I feel I am exactly where I am supposed to be, following my dream to become a successful Jewellery Designer. I am on the road to discovering myself as an artist , as these few months of study have had a powerful impact on me, shaping my personality and encouraging me to think outside the box.
In January and February 2017, I worked on designing pieces of Jewellery for my first Sustainable Fashion Show. The show was on Thursday, February 16th. I used sustainable materials for all of the designs, in order to raise awareness of recycling trash and turning it into wearable pieces of Art. Some of the materials used include: bicycle inner tube, silicone, polystyrene, etc. For this show, I prepared a selection of very interesting pieces inspired by Cosmology, each of them having an Astronomical object at its roots and its own name and story.
As I am a student studying Jewellery, I get to experiment with loads and techniques in the workshop, another one I like is working with metal, as you will see on my website: (www.facebook.com/DannysJewels) .
I am innovative and good at creative problem solving, therefore I would really appreciate it if you could offer me the opportunity to have an internship with your company during this summer late , as I am a student and I have classes until the end of May.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Daniela Groza
