Hello! I'm EJ and I'm a feature writer and the marketing manager for Canvas Events. I'm the Marketing Manager/Editor-In-Chief/Social Media Person for Canvas Events, and I also contribute to The London Economic, Litro, North Four The F Word and Verbal Remedy as a critic and feature writer. I've written articles on everything from IFRS 17 and Challenger Banking, to How to Plan a Wedding on a Budget and Where to Buy Cheap Wedding Dresses, to reviews for fringe theatre and interviews with intersectional performance artists. My traditional specialism is theatre and events in London, but since getting married in August 2017 I now consider myself an official expert on weddings, too.Locked Pro Plan feature
I'm the marketing manager at Canvas, handling the editorial content and our social strategy. I'm on hand to help our venues shout about their offerings, and show our users the very best of what London has to offer. For busy event planners who don’t have time to call every venue in London, Canvas is a marketplace with handpicked venues for every type of event. Canvas is totally free for event planners to use, and we never charge commission, so you’ll get the best deals a venue can offer – always.
I was one of the Account Managers on the Agile Content Team at Progressive Content, utilising our Content Cloud platform to implement complex, time critical content strategies and maximise the efficiency of our clients' schedules. Progressive Content creates effective, high-quality and original content to help B2B and luxury clients build better relationships with customers. It does this through a variety of content services, harnessing the power of its hybrid proposition that combines a full-service content marketing agency with an online content marketing platform, Content Cloud®.
My main responsibilities as PR and Marketing Coordinator were to support the design and execution of PR strategies to enhance sales, promote events and gain press coverage. I devised press releases and marketing copy, whilst maintaining communications with journalists, producers and audiences. I also managed the company social media accounts, seeing our average individual impressions increasing from 310 to 15,028 per tweet over six months. The highlight of my role was redesigning the branding and website for Emma Holland PR. I focused on showcasing five years of campaigns and introducing the reader to the importance of PR for their production, by curating the best work into informative and engaging editorial, image and video content. I incorporated my knowledge of SEO and CMS into the design to ensure the best possible online exposure for the business.
In 2013 I co-founded the independent film company Dacha Studios alongside Dmitry Tolmachev and Stefan Thegeby. What started as just a way to make films in our spare time snowballed into an acclaimed production company working alongside institutions such as Jacksons Lane, Goldsmiths University, and Teatro Technis. Our in-house films include Analgesia (2014), Noise (2015), and Now We Are Grown (2015) - a short, puppetry and live action mocumentary that I also wrote and co-directed. A five minute introductory film for the play "Doubt: A Parable" premiered at Theatro Technis in London in March 2016.
