  • Camden Encounters for Camden 50 / Camden Council's 50th Anniversary
Camden Encounters for Camden 50 / Camden Council's 50th AnniversaryCamden Encounters was a 12 month long public art commission for Camden Council on the occasion of the 50th anniversary since the formation of the Borough in its present form. Through my own networks and those of the council, I conducted 'encounters' with 22 people from all walks of life, all ages, about memories they had in specific parts fo Camden. I called these memories 'sticky memories' - memories that stay no matter how much time passes, forever bound to a particular place. I would meet
  • Clarke Gallery
Clarke GalleryI set up Clarke Gallery a week after I moved into my 2 room, top floor 'hinterhaus' apartment in Neukoelln, Berlin in October 2008. For more than two years I hosted a new exhibition about every six weeks in my flat. Art was nestled amongst my personal belongings. Visitors viewed work from the comfort of my Grandmother's sofa. By welcoming people into my apartment, an intimate and friendly atmosphere was fostered. On the whole, my community there was very local and regular. I see this gallery in a similar way to my participatory projects. With my partial move to the UK in January 2011, I took the decision to mobilize the gallery. Not to any new fixed space, but to any place - room, gallery, exhibition hall, garden - that seems like a good fit with the current exhibition. WUNDERKAMMER toured between 2012-14 in a suitcase, to Eastern Edge Gallery in St John's, Newfoundland, Canada; Franklin Furnace in New York and to TROVE in Birmingham. The Mobility Project was the second group touring show, which began at GSL Projekt in Berlin and went on to Meter Room, Coventry. And after that BERLIN/BIRMINGHAM/BEYOND was a 9 month project that took place in three installments of online/offline presentation, at mac birmingham, Joint Stock at The Old Joint Stock in Birmingham. Finally arts council funded project FRAME_birmingham saw art by 33 local national and international artists installed in mostly non-art venues across Birmingham - from a nail salon to the library; from a men's tailor to a hotel room; from a cafe in Moor Street Station to the Cathedral.
  • George Richmond Project
George Richmond ProjectThe George Richmond Portrait Project is an ongoing project by Elly Clarke that traces portraits by Victorian Portrait artist George Richmond RA (1809-1896) to private homes in order to photograph both the portraits and their current owners (descendants of those portrayed) in situ.
