About me
In 2005, Floor (Apeldoorn, 1981) finished his Bachelor of Build Environment, and worked as a planner at one of the Netherlands’ biggest architecture firms. In 2013 he graduated as product designer at the ArtEZ Institute of Arts, Arnhem. He has, amongst others, exhibited at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Zuiderzeemuseum, Museum Arnhem, and has presented his work at Ventura New York, Salone del Mobile Milan, the Dutch Design Week, Operae Turin, One Design Week Plovdiv, and Przetwory Poland. His designs are focused on restoring social relations and visualizing social developments. Skill and craftsmanship as medicine against the continuing individualisation and hardening of society; a form of slowness and tactility lies in the lovingly created installations and products.

#SUPEREGOThe Ego-culture rules. In a time where individuality is increasingly important, I present my project #SUPEREGO, a lavish installation of portraits of myself in various media. #superego is the sequel to my social embroidery installation 'Crossover Collective', in which I try to connect people through craftsmanship, tradition and normal analogue communication with each other. With this new body of work my ego is leading. Because, after all, I am the most important in the world, right? According t
  • LET'S GET MESSHY
LET'S GET MESSHYLETS GET MESSHY is a short campaign video about the love and appreciation of the art of embroidery. It elevates the craft and gives the viewer another perspective on an old-fashioned technique. But above all this clip is just fun! With this humoristic video Anne Vaandrager and Floor Nijdeken present an intimate and slightly erotic interaction between the basic elements of embroidery; mesh, needle and thread. Floor Nijdeken, an Amsterdam based designer, is the founder of Crossover Collective. The Crossover Collective connects people from different backgrounds in a low-tech manner, and makes old crafts fun again. Floor’s social embroidery table illustrates that it is not scary to have real interaction and take the time to share stories, crafts and knowhow. It’s about sitting down for a moment and being part of a collective textile piece. Anne Vaandrager a London based designer/filmmaker, graduated cum laude from MA Material Futures at Central Saint Martins in 2016. Her work is characterized by irony and sarcasm, to deal with subjects that matter. With her humoristic videos she creates absurd and funny scenarios that can make the viewer slightly uncomfortable. The mutual sense of humor between Anne and Floor resulted in this 'tongue and cheek' video.
  • Crossover Collective
Crossover CollectiveIn today's society there is a lot of knowledge (created), but how is this knowledge passed on? Nowadays young people get their knowledge from books and the internet, while the transfer of knowledge from the elderly and their heritage disappear. Society is changing and people are suspicious of spontaneity and communication with each other. People increasingly withdraw into their own privacy ‘bubble' while society, perhaps more than ever, actually is in need of real social exchange. Collect moments, not things My social machine focuses on an ancient form of communication and social activity: collective embroidery. With my machine the viewer is an active part of the installation, where transfer of ‘heritage’ (a collection of behaviour, knowledge, expertise, skills, memories, core values and sentiment) that you leave in your environment is the central theme. The embroidered carpet is the silent witness of the numerous short encounters, and the visitor has created a positive memory.
