About me
Hi! I'm Georgie, I am a 2020 graduate from The University of Derby. I studied Textile Design, specialising in Knit.
I have developed practical skills on the dubied and domestic knitting machines and have had experience programming the Shima Seiki Apex 3 software to create interesting and experimental knitted fabrics. I am confident using Photoshop and Illustrator to visualise my knitted samples as fashion and interior designs.
In 2020 I was awarded a Bursary by The Worshipful Company of Framework Knitters which has assisted me in my studies. I was also shortlisted for the Fashanne 2020 awards. In 2019 I was shortlisted for The David Nieper Scholarship competition.
In 2019 I completed a short work experience at Lee Klabin as a knitwear design intern. I was lucky enough to attend #MIIT2019 where I listened to speakers in the industry and visited Mills such as W.T Johnson & Sons and Antich & Sons.
Projects
- CIDA Award SubmissionMy project, Azulejos e Cabos, translated as Tiles and Cables, is a collection of experimental design structures inspired by primary research taken from the bright coloured Portuguese tiles known as 'Azulejos' and the investigation of other religious tiling during my visit to St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice and Durham Cathedral. I explore the wonders of cabling and geometric shapes inspired by these tiles. Designs are centred around cabling techniques, contrasting colours, texture, and structure.
