Working as a Retail Interior Designer for international leather brand Hidesign and their sub brands Holii and Ayesha, based in Pondicherry, India. Leading a team of three to work on projects pan India. Responsible for- 1. Designing of new stores, from idea generation to execution. 2. Space planning, lighting, ambience control. 3. Identification of stores that need redesigning and renovations. 4. Coordination with Marketing team for Visual Merchandising in stores. 5. Design and renovation of Hidesign Hotels- The Promenade, Le Dupleix. 6. Project management- To work with the civil engineer, site supervisors and contractor to efficiently build/ renovate each store within the given budget, time constraints and deliver a good store experience. 7. Successfully completed 15 stores since July 2014.
Trained and worked as the lead designer for furniture and interior brand Inhabit India at Hyderabad. Responsible for- 1. Interactions with the client to understand specifications. 2. Designing or customizing existing designs for furniture to their requirement. 3. Making working drawings of the same for production. 4. Follow through from production stage to delivery stage. 5. Print Marketing and PR- designing hoardings, brochures, invites, advertisements for the press and magazines. 6. Coordinating with different media persons for the above.
Interned with a Luxury Furniture Studio, CHIZZLE, to design my Graduation Collections. Designed two collections of theme-based furniture, targeting the Indian market: 1. “Let There Be Light”, the first collection is a set of 5 tables inspired from ribbons and the aesthetic quality that comes with the different shapes and forms a ribbon takes, with the colour scheme being black with highlights of metal. 2. The second collection “Inked” is a line of furniture, mainly chests of drawers, featuring a new finish- prints on wood. This is a feature new to the Indian furniture market and it became the USP of this line.
Interned with modular furniture company, V3 Engineers, to understand the manufacturing process and working of different departments as it is in the industry. Responsible for: 1. Assisting in the designing of a Traffic Police Booth. 2. Doing a thorough cause-effect analysis of the major machines in use and put forward suggestions as to how to improve the shop-floorsystem performance.
I have completed an MA in furniture along with interior and spatial design to enable me to expand my design senses and abilities into also creating a suitable ambiance in the space surrounding the furniture I design. My final project and thesis was based on Colour, how it affects us as humans, and the potential for usage in furniture and interior designing.
