About me
Originally from Bristol and currently living in London, I have also spent time in Beijing which is why a lot of my work is centred around China or Chinese language. I have an interest in documentary film, especially focused on subculture – which spurred me on to produce a series on Chinese Hip Hop whilst in Beijing and a series about the impact of Chinese cinema. Through these projects and others I have developed old skills and gained many new ones out of my determination to learn how to make things look better and more professional with each new published work. Through this I am constantly developing my abilities to tell the stories I want to see told.
Projects
  • "Curating Grief" (Tentative Title)
"Curating Grief" (Tentative Title)This is a personal and emotional film exploring my relationship with grief through the work of Charlene Lam, a Grief Coach and Curator who helps people understand their relationships with their lost loved ones through the objects they leave behind. In this ambitious project shot in Lisbon, Charlene and I share objects from our deceased parents and discuss the differences and similarities in our experiences of loss. • Why Should We Care About Chinese Cinema
Why Should We Care About Chinese CinemaI wanted to look at how through film, we can gain a better understanding about aspects of Chinese society and daily life outside of the mainstream narrative, especially considering everything that was going on at the time regarding COVID-19. I wanted to show people that Chinese society is active and engaging in the same sorts of socio-political conversations that we expect to see in ‘western cinema’.
  • Search for Chinese Hip Hop
Search for Chinese Hip HopA series filmed in China investigating the world of Chinese Hip Hop from the perspective of a complete novice to the genre. This series was my first experience with an investigative documentary. I used interviews and conversations with people to educate myself on the subject as I went along. I arranged, films and translated the interviews myself, using these with voiceover, still image, music, external clips and b-roll footage to create a narrative out of my journey of discovery.
