About me
Hi. I’m Jigs, freelance Graphic Designer, Indian Classical music enthusiast, reckless epicurean, and casual footie fan. After spending more than a decade in print media as Art Director of financial publications, I decided this year to meld my passions in a new direction. Having just completed a course in Events Management, I am ready to foray into the world of ‘experience economy’ with design as my backbone. Exciting days ahead...

  • MARTINS - Rebranding
MARTINS - RebrandingMartin’s is a men’s outfitters specializing in big name brands such as Brentwood New York, Converse, Crocket and Jones, Barker, Polo, Nike, Dickies, Cut-rite etc. The owner was relocating to a newly built shopping mall. Moving premises meant that he was forced to re-look at his brand, as he had to blend in with the contemporary look and feel of the rest of the upmarket stores in the vicinity. He ran a successful business built on old-fashioned word of mouth advertising. Martin’s provided quality goods to a select market and also offered tailoring services. American apparel was initially Martin’s forte, hence the old logo had a strong western cowboy feel to it. It comprised of red lettering in a rather heavy old-fashioned Rockwell font and the letter M was encased in a crest as its insignia. It was decided to retain the original letter ‘M’ but change the monogram to a more elegant hexagon shape, representing the 6 core values of the business. The type for the name of the store was changed completely to a more modern contemporary font. The overall design was simple, clean and classy employing black and white in the color scheme to further enhance the new-look, exclusive and stylish uptown brand. *PROPOSAL- Images used for mockup purposes only
  • Finweek Magazine
Finweek MagazineThe most important rule for editorial design is that it's imperative that you know your audience and design for them accordingly. In the same way that the reader must be able to identify with the tone of voice of the publication, the design must also speak to them. Great design is achieved when good content and good visuals work in perfect harmony to bring the message across. The designer is a conductor of an orchestra, using typography, photography, composition, illustration and graphics to surprise, provoke, entertain and inform readers. These editorial spreads were designed in my capacity as Art Director of the weekly financial publication, Finweek.
  • RALLY TO READ
RALLY TO READThe Rally to Read project provides a unique platform where corporate South Africa is united by a common purpose and belief that together they can play a critical role in our country’s quest to address the major educational challenges it faces. Through the collaborative efforts of organisors, hosts and sponsors, the lives of thousands of children living in the remotest parts of South Africa, are impacted every year. Whole libraries are delivered to schools, teachers are up-skilled and empowered, in turn benefiting not only their learners but their communities as a whole. It is an exciting, inspiring and rewarding journey to which I feel proud to have contributed my skills pro bono in the designing of a special commemorative edition for this amazing project.
