- Digging for VictoryIn 1939, World War II began. Shipping was needed for the war effort so food wasn’t being imported. Many shops had been bombed or their supply chains severely reduced so they had very little to sell. Rationing began and Britain was facing the possibility of starvation. The ‘Digging For Victory’ slogan was introduced by the government to encourage people who couldn’t join the army to contribute to the war effort by becoming food producers. Private and public land was then converted into allotments
- The Surbtion BoysThe Surbiton boxing gym. In light of ongoing cuts to youth and community projects, this gym provides the space for young men to come together through sport, to train and compete in the amateur boxing ranks. Being part of this community myself, I realise that spaces like this are about so much more, rather than just sports. This is my attempt to document the space and the community of young men that use it.
