Kirath Ghundoo is a British-Indian multi-disciplinary designer and artist whose work explores colour, pattern, surface and texture across the creative industries. Drawing on a multitude of influences that touch upon heritage, travel, the everyday, lifestyle, nature, fashion and iconic design era’s, her work is playful and aims to elicit a sense of joy. Representing a visual diary of the world around her, Kirath’s work encompasses a fusion of everything she loves.
In 2011, she introduced her first wallpaper collection, 'Mix 'n' Match 11', at 100% Design in London. Her iconic wallpapers defy traditional conventions, ripping up the rule book, encouraging clients to have fun by creating unique feature walls with mismatched pattern and colour. Since launching she has become a favourite of the design and interiors press both in the UK and internationally, recognised as one of nine leading women in design by ELLE Decoration UK and the ‘queen of pretty geometrics’ by Living Etc. Her work has been featured in major design publications such as, AD, British Vogue, The Independent, The Observer and Mix Interiors.
Her digital surface pattern work has attracted a number of international product brand collaborations across ceramic tiles, furnishing fabrics, homeware and accessories. In 2020 she launched a range of original abstract artworks exploring a hand rendered approach to her creativity landing a covergirl feature for Sunday Times Home. Having built a loyal client base her work can be seen across product, workspace, retail, healthcare and residential spaces around the world.
Her work explores creative boundaries through technical experimentation with digital and hand rendered mixed media to produce innovative new outcomes. Through her curiosity, inquisitiveness and observation, she identifies eclectic themes and inspirations encouraging her work to change, adapt and grow. She is open to exploring a range of multidisciplinary projects utilising her skillset to explore new challenges and projects. - MIX 'N' MATCH 17 COLLECTION \\ CUBAIn June 2016 we travelled to Cuba visiting the sites of Havana Trinidad, Cienfuegos and Varadero. The rustic charms of Havana still remain and we wanted to capture the old history before it all changes. Trinidad is a magical place full of bright colour around every street corner with snippets of broken tiles, decaying man made surfaces with contrasting patterns. - HYUNDAI LIVART \\ KOREACollaborating with Hyundai Livart in Korea, we worked on a challenging pattern project. The brief involved designing a series of patterns that could be translated into stitch onto mattresses for the 2016 Ensleep Collection. Livart requested a Scandinavian feel to the patterns, keeping them minimal and cool. Overall we created four mattresses patterns which were translated into stitch over a six month period. Each one is individual adding a quirky design element through shape.
- KITCHENWALLS \\ NETHERLANDSWorking closely on a designer range we created four pattern splash backs for KitchenWalls based in the Netherlands. They are available to purchase direct from Behangfabriek. Due to the new and revolutionary material which is heat and water resistant, reusable and easy to clean the wallpapers can be used within a bedroom, bathroom and living room.
