About me
Hi, I'm Laura 👋 A highly motivated multidisciplinary artist and recent graduate of photography with a love for Research, Art and Art History. Alongside my studies, I have a range of experience within the industry. Most recently I have assisted in a prestigious gallery in Mayfair. previously to this I have experience working as a Freelance Photojournalist with my work featured in and on the cover of the Farnham's Herald newspaper. I also have photography experience across other fields such as Documentary, Events, Advertisement, Analogue photography and Portraiture. Before I began my creative journey I have worked in roles such as insurance sales, administrative management and reception work. I look forward to developing my skills and seeing where my career takes me!
Projects
  • Sorry you feel that way
Sorry you feel that wayA project that through digital scans explores the effect of medication I am prescribed for my mental health condition, Borderline Personality Disorder. A deeply personal project that served as therapy progressed into meaningful scans that show my sense of emptiness whilst taking the medication. This work was selected for online and physical exhibition for the D31 Art Gallery, Doncaster. The summer exhibition was titled 'Power' and ran from July 2023 - September 2023
  • The Father Of Bloodshed
The Father Of BloodshedThis body of work is a mixed media project that focuses on the brutal history of women's health. Dr J Marion Sims has been immensley celebrated as the founding "Father of Gynecology" since the 19th century for his surgeries on women. in this complex three board collage of found images, text and personal documents I meticulously curated a narrative to reveal the truth of Marion Sims work which involved countless experiments on many black enslaved women. By scorching a portrait of Dr J Marion Sims

BA (Hons) Photography - 2:1 Activities and societies: During my time at UCA I founded and managed the Photography society alongside three other students, I was a paid student ambassador and voted as course representative for two years. At UCA I have developed many essential skills and confidence. Collaborative work with different courses has helped me gain understanding of other creatives and what works well in a team. I have completed extensive research which I now know I want to continue into my future career, these research based projects have resulted in a substantial body of work, ranging from subjects such as my sister and coming to terms with her disability, family and the family album, mental health and women’s health. These projects have led me to my strong desire to develop awareness surrounding health in women through photography.
