About me
www.loulawrenceillustration.uk I’ve recently completed a degree at the University of Bolton in animation and illustration and I’m looking forward to illustrating children’s books in an educational way, both non-fiction and fiction. I’m interested in both text and wordless books, whether written by myself or another author. Animals as the main characters are my favourite while they teach children about our world. From endangered species lesser known to environmental issues. I’d like to develop my ideas into a commercial concept for children to become familiar with and encourage their educational journey.

Where Now ? asked the walrus. This project took me on a journey to create a wordless book for children. The contemporary topic on global warming in the style of a wordless book seemed difficult to find. So, I wrote the narrative about endangered animals travelling the globe to find new habitats due to theirs' being ruined by floods, deforestation, bleaching of coral reefs, ice caps melting, fires and traffic pollution. I have Illustrated the story digitally. Here are a few double spreads from the book.
  • Character Design
Character DesignBee, Happy and Dance are endangered animals / insects who have been created to teach children that no matter what difficult hurdles you have to jump in your life and what insecurities you may have, you can be happy and dance and don't worry what anyone thinks. Bee is a glasses wearing bee, who is a cheeky mischievous insect, from an island off the coast of Scotland. Happy is her friend and a miserable, bandage wearing capercaillie who constantly flies into deer fences and Dance is their puffin
  • Animal Alphabet
Animal AlphabetThe beginnings of animal alphabet posters using direct names of particular insects or animals. Ie not just a butterfly, but the kind of butterfly. ie Monarch or Admiral.
  • Birds
BirdsThe beginnings of a project illustrating birds. The Cormorant. The Toucan.
  • Food illustration
Food illustrationI hand made a printed book of foods that dogs can and cannot eat. Using my drawings and a mixture of mediums before deciding on the right look for the project, I finally completed the hand made, faux leather book using laser and lino cut stamps.

We believe that creativity cannot be taught in a lecture theatre, that’s why all our teaching is done in a studio environment and in classes of 30 or less. We believe that employability should be central to all we do, that’s why many of our student briefs are live briefs set by industry. That’s why we believe that whatever the role our students are read
