English: Writing in the Modern Age - My MA qualification itself was based on what you personally wanted to study from a selection of ‘modern writing’ topics ranging from war literature and politics to theology and art. I chose it, knowing I wanted to pursue a career in journalism and documentary production in the future, because it meant I could brush up on my research skills and dedicate time to understanding the framing of modern world events. - Learnt about the media and politics in particular, later specialising in World Wars I and II. - Dissertation relied heavily on primary research - due to most sources I required being lost in the Indian partition, I flew to India, and used negotiation tactics to gain admittance to records untouched for almost a decade in the Mumbai War Archives (that too in a language different to my native!). - Financially supported myself throughout the degree and simultaneously kickstarted my career journey with positions such as an events strategy director at a start-up aged 22, and a creative strategist which led to a permanent position at the very same creative agency. EXTRACURRICULARS: I exercised my communication skills whilst campaigning for and eventually becoming the official Masters representative for the QMSU student council 2017-2018. I became the English Society’s president and remained so throughout my postgrad years, which meant selecting and leading a committee of 10+ people to generate profit for the society and providing socialising opportunities and career talks for over 200+ members. I remained a campus newspaper and magazine contributor, covering a range of topics; and additionally remained the broadcast host of the QMTV campus media outlet, quickly progressing onto managing the entire production team, the shots, the scripting and lighting.

English, 2.1 (Hons) - My undergraduate course gave me a well-rounded view of current events, as well as an understanding of politics and media that I’d never received before since I came from a majorly STEM-related background - Highest results incidentally essays I’d written that dissected recent news stories and modern culture, demonstrating my analytics and comparison skills. EXTRACURRICULARS: - Netball club, various other memberships, charity schemes - QMTV (the television station)’s official anchor for several series that it produced, going on to manage my own production team, script and editing process - CUB Magazine (the campus’s arts and culture magazine)’s regular contributor about a range of different topics from mental health to Freshers’ Week - The Print (the official university newspaper)’s contributor, official columnist and social secretary for a year (all of the above experiences in student media required organisation, punctuality when deadlines required quick ‘turn-arounds’, communication skills in order to convey any story I’d been asked to cover, and confidence to form the relationships in the first place that allowed me to be considered for such opps) - Founding committee member, media officer and social secretary of the English Society: constantly reaching out to potential/current members of the society using personalised messages in order to increase event turnout and minimise drop-off rates; as the society’s digital face, using my knowledge of my peer group and its various pain points to create numerous campaigns and social posts to grow our presence (nominated as ‘best new society’ for this reason); event-planning, partially in charge of arranging and executing our department’s summer ball, working alongside the entire committee to make it a profit-generating event; financial negotiations and risk assessments where required
