About me
Matilde Dimas was born in the year 2000 in London, United Kingdom. And has spent most of her life in Lisbon, Portugal. Matilde’s art journey stated in Highschool, St. Julian’s school, in her IGCSE years and IB diploma. She then proceeded to take her Art & Design foundation in Paris College of Arts. Currently she is based in London, taking her Fine Arts Bachelor in UAL, Chelsea college of Arts.
Other than her studies, Matilde had the opportunity to partake in other experiences. Such as, in 2017 she interned as an Artist assistant to Sofia Areal, a well renowned Portuguese abstract painter. During her Foundation year (2019), Matilde also worked in the university’s Library, while finishing in the Dean’s list. In addition to that Matilde helped curate and set up the &CO creative hub as their Art director. In the same timeframe (August- December 2021) Matilde interned in RioPele a Portuguese Textiles Factory, within the Investigation & Development department. Overall, Matilde has learnt from her experiences and established the woman and artist she is today.
Being a fine art student, Matilde loves the independent and explorative nature of the course, always inclined towards things that are out of her comfort zone. She sees art as a unique journey. It's not itself a moment, a piece, or an interpretation. But a sequence of experiences, a process to dissect and interact with reality. To build on her processes and perspectives.
At this moment Matilde focuses her work to recycle, to repurpose, adding a new meaning, giving a new life, to someone else’s waste material. The idea of being a recycler fascinates her, having a zero-waste practice. Being able to create pieces of work that transcend beauty.

As the title reads in Portuguese it is a wordplay, to have 100 meanings or without meanings. - "Untitled"In these two paintings, I Still keep in mind the focus of recycling and repurposing, all the materials used for these paintings were found. The canvas came from a construction site. Paints were sourced from leftover paints that students left behind from their exchange program, and the thread was second-hand sourced from a market. (130cm x 90cm - each)
