About me
I am a recent graduate with a degree in Interactive Design Arts from the London College of Communication. I have a wide range of skills and experience in creative projects, design and interactive public events. My talents and interests consist of art, music, performance, design, graphics, video, and media. I am looking to start my career in the creative industry of art and design. People need fantasies in their lives, and I feel a responsibility to help bring those fantasies to life and place them boldly in reality; to be a gunner for creative development in the expanding art and design landscape. Projects
  • destroy.
destroy. The DESTROY project is an auto-destructive piece combining music, visual effects and a chemical reaction to evoke how man has suffered throughout history due to age, illness, madness and other forms of gradual degradation. The final piece is a combination of three different forms of destruction, (physical, visual and audial), that interconnect to form a quixotic display of a dying man. The narrative spans from health - to illness - to death, and then progresses into a visual representation of the mystery of what proceeds from death.
  • Pierrot. IDA+TOFFE
Pierrot. IDA+TOFFE'Pierrot' is a solo project I created for a collaborative exhibition held by Independent Record Label ‘Quiet One Music’ and the Interactive Design Team of London College of Communication. The exhibition was held to promote uprising Swedish popstar TOFFE and the release of his first major single ‘Painting Pictures’. (13th May 2017, The Ugly Duck, South London). The project consists of a large ephemeral installation built from live ivy, and a video projection portraying Pierrot the Clown. The piece was designed to explore the spaces between love and love-loss. view the project in detail here on my website - https://mattsavage.org/Pierrot-IDA-TOFFE
  • innerSID
innerSIDInnerSID is a small project that explores the destructive nature of children through a series of playful toy mutilations. The name is inspired from the child-villain toy torturer ‘Sid’ from Disney’s Toy Story (1996). I used fire as the main method of destruction due to the common fascination children have for it. The project explores a paradox between the conventionally innocent aspects of child nature, especially though the use of feminine toys such as Barbies, and the menacingly grotesque imagery of burned and tortured figures. Both of which can be seen simultaneously as forms of play. Two sides of the same toy.
  • love/death_OPHELIA
love/death_OPHELIAThis project explores two major themes of life, (love and death), and attempts to form a provocative connection between the two through an explored visual statement. I created a dark body of work that conveyed the atmosphere of these two forces, and weighed heavily on my own personal experiences for inspiration and a deeper emotional input. Love and death have become imposing elements throughout the history of the art world, including the stage, literature, music and film. Each of the themes carry a substantial amount of darkness and traditional romanticism, and are, in truth, damningly relatable. The two can be combined in a number of ways, the main example being ‘death by love’, such as suicide driven by heartbreak. A symbolic figure of tragic love and suicide, Ophelia is a character in William Shakespeare’s play Hamlet, completed in 1602. Ophelia was the lover of Hamlet, and, when she received false news that he had met his death, she was driven mad by grief and ultimately downed herself in a river. I decided to use the Death of Ophelia as the subject matter for this project, (a powerful image of a woman lying dead or dying in a river or outdoor area of water), and explored how I could re-envision this scene to metaphorically depict a particularly painful break up I had gone through in the past. In a purely figurative manner I felt as if the girl in question had committed romantic suicide due to our break up, which evoked the atmosphere of the Death of Ophelia.
  • SCHIZOWAVE.
SCHIZOWAVE.SCHIZO-WAVE is a speculative design project centered around subculture metaphysics, where design is used to envision and explore future possibilities of social and humanitarian progression.

I took part as one of the many catwalk models for the CSM White Show, dressed in the garments of one of the participating students. This experience required me to take on the typical atheistic of a high-fashion model, posing for photo shoots and acting as a mannequin for weeks prior as the garments were fitted to my measurements.
