About me
*Graduated "top of the class" from both the University of Southampton (BA, 2016) and the University of Birmingham (MA, 2023)* Having secured for myself the above academic record, my hope now is to forge a comparable level of success in a new professional context i.e., to dedicate myself to a career that not only makes full use of my competencies and capabilities, but one that also provides me ample opportunity to grow and develop further. Of course, I say this having already built a strong bedrock of both 'hard' and 'soft' skills, fostered by my previous service in administrative, supervisory and sales roles. Indeed, I would contend that such a rich and multifaceted employment history speaks as much to my adaptability as it does the presence of a varied and diverse skillset. Whether it be my specialist training in video production, my affinity for creative writing or the intrapersonal and leadership skills I cultivated during my time in retail, I sincerely believe that there's something in my toolbox to impress any employer, company or organisation. Whilst I have recently focused my attention on making inroads into the UK's creative sector, one of the most important lessons that I have learnt in my professional life so far is that "it's in the unexpected in which you often find that which is most beneficial and rewarding." To those employers perusing this profile of mine, I hope that you share a similar serendipitous outlook and consider what it is I can bring to you and your team.

  • Of Lobsters & Men (Documentary Short)
Of Lobsters & Men (Documentary Short)Part-video essay and part-performative testimonial, Of Lobsters & Men is a humorous, side-eyed look at the world of (and according to) Dr. Jordan B. Peterson. Originally submitted to meet the graduating criteria for my MA degree, OL&M was described by the assessing lecturer as "vulnerable, playful, creative, a little cheeky and the same time critically and intellectually rigourous." Despite how it might have come into production, OL&M stands as something that is incontestably of my making. It
  • Citizen Joker (Video Essay)
Citizen Joker (Video Essay)A tongue-in-cheek video essay that probes how, in recent years, DC Comics supervillain 'The Joker' has been co-opted into the visual language of both sides of America's political divide.
  • A Great British Gardening Story (Student Film)
A Great British Gardening Story (Student Film)Very happy to have spent the summer months acting as a Camera Operator for the student film, 'A Great British Gardening Story.' For as long as I spent back then in darkened editing suites working on films of a more fatalistic disposition, it was rather salubrious to go outside and assist on a project that promoted a brighter, greener outlook on things!

Upon completion of my MA degree, I felt the need to "strike while the iron was hot" and continue my studies in some way. I alighted on the above course as a way of further 'rounding' my skillset; I wanted to embark on a programme of study of a totally different flavour and discipline than I had experienced before. Although the material was often taxing, the course handled such things sensitively and comprehensively. I came away from it with both an understanding of the tell-tale warning signs that people often display when contemplating self-harm or suicide might display as well as a toolbox of coping and support strategies I can employ in response nd a toolbox of coping and support resources that I can deploy

MA Film and Television: Research and ProductionUniversity of Birmingham
     - Birmingham, United Kingdom
Grade: Distinction Graduated "top of the class" with across-the-board distinctions in all modules (as listed below). Despite the specificity implied by its name, the MA helped me foster a robust, fluid and multi-faceted skill-set. For instance: - The 'Development and Production Processes' module was, at its heart, predicated on creating a sellable advertising campaign. After alighting on an initial concept, ideas were refined via focus testing, analysis of marketing trends and then ultimately, pitched to and assessed by guest industry experts. - My A/V dissertation saw me direct, film and edit a thirty-minute documentary. Such a task demanded much from me not only in the way of 'hard' technical skills, but of 'softer' (more adaptive) proficiencies also e.g., time management, negotiating with potential contributors, etc. Modules: Audio-Visual Dissertation, Research Skills, Media Industry Placement, History of Documentary Film, Guided Editing, Development and Production Processes in Film & Television.
