About me
Matthew Hancock is a designer and illustrator from the UK. His first brush with the visual arts came at a young age, when he began photoshopping hats on to guinea pigs instead of doing his homework. In the years since he’s worked with many different clients; from startups to tech giants, charities to fashion houses. His creative process has remained largely unchanged.
Projects
  • The Perfect Marriage
The Perfect Marriage“Is there anything more inexplicably human than when one person says ‘Oh god, that’s disgusting’ only for another to respond ‘Really? Let me try!’?“ For Cheese Magazine.
  • New York Times: Joan Robinson
New York Times: Joan RobinsonJoan Robinson upended the misogynistic good-old-boys’ network of economists and devised theories around competition and labor vital to the antitrust debates of today.
  • GQ: The Hunt for Félicien Kabuga
GQ: The Hunt for Félicien KabugaHe was one of Africa’s richest moguls and helped unleash the Rwandan genocide of 1994. Then Félicien Kabuga vanished and stayed hidden for more than two decades—until recently, when the United Nations’ war crimes detectives picked up his trail and began to close in. For GQ France.
  • Aurochs: a Letterpress Type Family
Aurochs: a Letterpress Type FamilyAurochs is a display type family in six weights, developed from scans of vintage letterpress and woodblock prints. It evokes the original typographic wild west, when letterforms were handmade, imperfect and often mismatched, with various weights and styles jumbled together in a kind of controlled chaos.
  • New York Times: Daniel Pearl
New York Times: Daniel PearlThe recent order by a Pakistani court to release his kidnapper opens old wounds and raises old questions about the war on terror that have never been resolved.
  • Vittles: Tomatoes as Therapy
Vittles: Tomatoes as Therapy“On the morning of my grandfather’s wake, my grandmother sat at their kitchen table, watching YouTube tutorials about tomatoes.“ A moving discussion of the transformative power of gardening. For Vittles.
