I’ve been making digital things since 2001. I have helped launch hardware startups, lead projects for global brands, built and launched products for innovative companies and collaborated with some of the most talented people in the industry. I love working with capable teams of designers and engineers and find crafting an elegant product incredibly rewarding. I have in-depth knowledge of mobile platforms, especially iOS, but have a general passion for all technology and love tinkering, playing and prototyping with anything that comes to hand. Coming from a traditional design background, and with a career history spanning award winning digital design, moving image, flash animation and video editing, I feel at one working with a strong design team. I’m comfortable leaning in and getting involved in the design process, but also sitting back and help the designers craft a beautiful product.Locked Pro Plan feature
I was heavily involved in the design, ux and engineering of Sammy Screamer and Suzy Snooze - the first two products from BleepBleeps. From a technical angle I managed iOS, Android and hardware engineers both in the UK and China, engineered the majority of the iOS app, designed protocols for Wifi and Bluetooth communications, designed and implemented REST APIs using NodeJS, and designed and managed a synchronised database solution using Firebase.
I work in a team of two building the new Swift only iOS application from the ground up. We undertook a complete rewrite using the latest technologies and rebuilt the social network style application in under 3 months. After launch we started to integrate some of the coolest iOS technologies including - ARKit, CoreML and Siri.
I ran the mobile engineering team at Polaroid Swing, coordinating with design, product and the larger engineering group. I ensured that the user experience is clear, build quality is high, and that the app is released to a regular schedule.
I helped prototype the ROLI Blocks instrument, the latest product from ROLI. I was initially brought in to prototype MIDI communications by building an iOS application, but was soon working on the UX of a new software platform, helping with firmware development and creating innovative solutions for case study videos.
I moved to a contracting position after Apple acquired Beats By Dre, to help maintain the Beats Music iOS application.
I was a member of the iOS team working on the Beats Music iPhone and iPad apps. My primary focus was working on signature experiences - Onboarding, The Sentence and The Player. This required having a deep understanding of Core Animation, UIKit, Box2D Physics Engine and optimising for slower devices.
I managed teams of mobile developers and lead mobile development for clients such as Beats By Dre, Nike, O2, JJVC, Ray-Ban and Qatar. I also lead multi-platform engineering teams for Beats By Dre and Nike events across Europe, Moscow, Dubai and New York using technologies such as .NET, Python, Django, AWS, Heroku and Java to name but a few. Signature projects include - Beats Music - Nike+ FuelBand - Beats By Dre "Colors" Time Square and Covent Garden Events - Nike+ FuelFest - O2 Priority Sports - O2 Priority Moments - NikeStore.com - Qatar 2022 World Cup pitch
