About me
Broad ranging experience within the Arts Industry in the UK and abroad. Most recently as an Art Consultant and Curator for New Ashgate Gallery in Farnham Surrey. I have a very hands-on role, working in all aspects of the delivery of up to 30 exhibitions, talks, events and 3 prizes annually. It is a packed programme. During my time at New Ashgate I have successfully expanded uptake in our Angels membership scheme, increased sales and successfully secured funding for multiple exciting community projects. Prior to my current role, I worked as a Sales Co-ordinator for GAS Gallery, since 2011 and whilst my children were very young. I was responsible for managing successful relationships with clients, artists and potential buyers. This was a sales targeted role and very much honed my business and negotiation skills. I worked with the Gallery Director to plan our annual programme of events, pop up shows and art fair attendances. I have also worked in the not for profit sector, most notably as Senior Curator at Paintings in Hospitals. Responsible for a Modern British art Collection of over 4000 artworks. I managed successful relationships with donor artists such as Bridget Riley, Antony Gormley, the Josef Albers foundation, Quentin Blake, Anish Kapoor and Ian Davenport. I was responsible for maintaining with my team accurate databases of historical provenance, which related to each work along with stock databases and loan information. I was responsible for a national team of curators and volunteers. I ran artist residency schemes and liaised with national galleries such as the V&A to loan work for healthcare environments. This role in a charitable organisation allowed me an important insight into funding application processes and financial planning for charitable arts organisations. The contacts gleaned in that role with big name artists and large national galleries have stood me in good stead over the subsequent years and have enabled me to bring big names to Farnham that ordinarily may not have exhibited outside of London. Early on in my career I worked in the role of Studio Manager for Westbury Farm Studios, an established Artists’ co-operative with studios. At Westbury I was responsible for the day-to-day management of running the busy arts centre and its programme of events. I managed a team of 6 part time arts centre staff and became adept at working to tight deadlines whilst maintaining the financial records and keeping tabs on membership and artist studio contracts. During my time at Westbury farm, I grew our income four-fold, initially by introducing a hiring timetable for local music and arts practitioners who used the large spaces within the studios for rehearsals and workshops. I also introduced a successful Art for Offices scheme and signed up local businesses to lease completed works from the artists for an annual fee. This entailed organising appropriate insurances, contracting and internal regulation. The success of the scheme led to us being able to contract studio artists in some offices on Artist in Residence schemes in exchange for annual funding support for the centre which helped to cover some of the many costs which are often cannot be covered in project specific funding applications.
