About me
For more than ten years Sarah has worked with cultural organisations, design studios and individuals to shape ideas into exceptional projects including books, journals, websites, branding, exhibitions and events. With experience in all aspects of the editorial process, she can advise at every stage of production – from ideation, commissioning, manuscript editing and briefing, to working with a team of designers, printers, PRs and partner organisations to deliver projects of diverse scales and with their own unique challenges.

  • Architecture Iconographies: Survey
Architecture Iconographies: SurveySurvey is the first book by the historian Matthew Wells and also the inaugural volume of the Architectural Iconographies series co-published by Drawing Matter and Park Books. It explores the history of the survey (or measured drawing) and its multiple forms in order to understand how the methods of recording what already exists can also be used to imagine what might be. Bringing together a mix of voices and approaches, it suggests that while all surveys begin with the site, the outcomes are as i

  • Drawn Closer
Drawn CloserDrawn Closer is a year-long collaboration between Drawing Matter and Domus, edited in 2020 by David Chipperfield. Each issue of the magazine features one architect discussing a drawing which they recognise as a formative moment in their work. The printed text then links to a longer edited transcript found on drawingmatter.org. Collaborating with David Chipperfield, I identified and interviewed ten different architects to discuss their unique approaches to drawing. From Ghent-based Marie-José Van
  • RA Magazine
RA MagazineRA Magazine is delivered quarterly to the 100,000+ Friends of the Royal Academy of Arts. As deputy editor (2018–19), I managed the day-to-day challenges of the magazine while working closely with the editor, Sam Phillips, to commission and edit articles that best represented the exuberance and ideas of the artists and exhibitions that make up the core of the RA. Specific projects included developing the RA Life section of the magazine into an informative yet writerly guide to life behind the sc
  • Alternative Histories
Alternative HistoriesAlternative Histories is a travelling exhibition and accompanying catalogue that brings 85 contemporary architecture offices into dialogue with historic drawings from the collection of Drawing Matter. Along with project-managing the installation of the exhibition in London and subsequent show in Brussels, I edited the catalogue and project-managed a small team of the curators, photographers and graphic designer Studio Mathias Clottu to work intensively over a six-week period to deliver a book th
  • Architecture through Drawing
Architecture through DrawingArchitecture through Drawing is the first major volume produced by the UK-based architectural drawings collection of Drawing Matter. The book explores how drawing encapsulates ideas relating to culture, technology, space and the built environment. Working in consultation with the book’s editors, we developed a core group of academic essays into a beautifully presented collection of writing – and drawings. In addition to editing the existing texts and supervising the picture-research, I commissi

As an editor, I partner with organisations and individuals to bring art, architecture and design into people’s lives. I work across all media to create spaces for the best scholarship, ideas and writing to flourish. This might take the form of a printed journal or online magazine, a volume of scholarly essays, an exhibition catalogue, identity refresh for an architectural practice, or an online audio experience that goes behind the scenes of a drawing.
