Drawn Closer is a year-long collaboration between Drawing Matter and Domus, edited in 2020 by David Chipperfield. Each issue of the magazine features one architect discussing a drawing which they recognise as a formative moment in their work. The printed text then links to a longer edited transcript found on drawingmatter.org. Collaborating with David Chipperfield, I identified and interviewed ten different architects to discuss their unique approaches to drawing. From Ghent-based Marie-José Van Hee (pictured here) on designing her own home and Alberto Ponis on the design for a path across northern Sardinia, to Pakistan’s first female architect Yasmeen Lari on functional designs for impoverished communities and BV Doshi on designing his office – every approach tells a different story about the power of drawing to transform ideas and practice.
