About me
Tanausu Herrera developed a passion for photography from a very early age inspired by his father's hobby. Born and raised in the Canaries he soon discovered that there was an innate drive to communicate through photography his fascination with light and people, often using friends and neighbours as subjects to photograph, creating scenes that took them to a place of self-discovery wonder and joy. As a young adult, he moved to London attracted by its multicultural society and creative scene. Studied Photography and soon started assisting various Fashion photographers on assignments around the globe. These trips allowed him to meet people from all walks of life, from poor villagers in rural India, rich Businessmen in Dubai, barmen in the Miami club scene, Immigrant prostitutes in Amsterdam's red light district to High society heirs in conservative England to name a few. This encounters expanded on his child like curiosity and observation for human behaviour and what is at the core of being human beyond what constructs an Identity. Tanausu's innate desire for truth led him to study and experience in depth various forms of personal development and spirituality, soon exploring the meditative nature in all aspects of Image making and the relationship between those unique moments in time and the experience between the viewer and the art. Tanausu developed a passion for creating artworks that visually bridge those insights, those moments of clarity with the viewer, inviting them to look deeper and reflect on their own experience of self and reality. His work blends postmodernism with conceptual art and speaks to psychology, and human transformation. It explores through technology the parallels between visible and unseen qualities of light, operating on the material properties of digital media to reveal that there is more to discover under the photographic surface and the enquiry into the emotional embodiment of an Identity in humans and what core truths can be discovered, beyond what's visible. Tanausu has had his work featured in a number of International publications, private commissions and regularly collaborates with designers, visual artists and performers. His Photographic work has also been exhibited in The London Fashion Museum in collaboration with Getty Images. His artistic expression is expanding to explore a variety of media including installation, video, performance and sculpture. Tanausu has walked over 12500kms around Europe for peace spreading a message of hope and championing humanity in these trying times. Currently located in the french pyrenees writing and creating online content to ‘wake people up’

  • Hard of Hearing (Photo Art)
Hard of Hearing (Photo Art)In this series Tanausu places subtitles on images of animals serving humans as if the hard of hearing selection was on when watching a film. Countless families across the world depend on horses, mules, donkeys, camels and oxen for their livelihoods – and sometimes even their lives. These hardworking animals are the backbone of many societies, yet their lives can be short and involve great suffering. Working day after day in extreme temperatures, often with poor harnessing, little food and no ve
  • Ego trap (Installation)
Ego trap (Installation)Mouldy Cake, mirrors. In this installation, Tanausu creates a work of art that summarises the concept of Ego, that created Identity that humans develop as the 'Me' a fixed identity coming from past experiences and conditioning disguising itself as true or significant, with all its illusory reflections and concepts, separating itself from reality, based on fear.
  • The way things were (Sculpture & Photography)
The way things were (Sculpture & Photography)Stone, Wood, rubber, paint In This series, Tanausu created various sculptures from found materials and assembled them in a way they could stand on their own without attaching them, in an attempt to highlight the fragility and impermanence of things, inspired by Zen Buddhism. These series are presented with a photograph of the original items behind the sculptures now painted black, again to highlight the impermanence of objects and reflecting on the ever-changing nature of forms.
  • Footprint (Photography)
Footprint (Photography)Here in this photograph Tanausu highlights the impact of the Human Carbon footprint on nature and its implications and the destruction of the natural habitat, through the use of fossil energies.
  • Various Installations.
Various Installations.Various Installation created in abandoned sites in Tenerife, where found materials were gathered and positioned in various places in contrast to their surroundings, burned wood piled up as to where a hut would have stood, a door with a curtain that leads nowhere, rusty structures on a field, fishing nets on a road. Here Tanausu wants to create a sense of the impact that Humans have in its surroundings and the wasteful nature of human consumption with its never-ending cycle of creation and destruction.

Work history
    Artist

Through the years, I have developed a commitment to reveal a deeper truth in my personal and artistic life, this has taken form in the development of my Photography from initially for the major part of a decade being about fashion, to now moving into being about enquiring into spiritual and philosophical ideas, a thought-provoking exploration of the human psyche with the intention to wake up and stir in the viewer feelings of connection and unity with self and others. It explores the parallels between light visible to the human eye and what Art can reveal through technology and the enquiry into the emotional embodiment of an Identity in humans and what core truths can be discovered, beyond what's visible.
