Any advice for starting a career in Art Direction or Creative Production for a fine art grad? Anybody need an assistant in London? :)

I know it's slim pickings right now in terms of entry level roles, but if anybody has practical wisdom on where to look or what initial steps to take, that would be amazing. I'm working part time flexibly at the moment so if anybody needs assisting (on shoots or any other project) in London, let me know!

I have experience as a Showroom, PR and Social Media intern for a fashion brand, and my recent graduate project was a big concept creation piece culminating in a zine with self portraits I shot and edited in quarantine. Would love to get some hands on experience with art directors/stylists/photographers/events etc

  • Hi Victoria, see if you can connect with young directors/ producers/ set designers and send them your projects/ portfolio. Many work as freelancers and always need assistants or helping hands on set. We often work with the people we know so if you do a good job, you‘ll get asked again and again. Feel free to write me if you‘re ever in Berlin.
  • @Bella Robinson I saw that, definitely a goal position for the near future but I haven't got enough experience yet! Thank you for the other suggestions that's so helpful :)
  • Can't offer any experience, but have you listened to the Dear Art Producer podcast. Really interesting points on there about how to get into the industry. Good luck!
  • Work at any production or photo studios like spring studios etc to get on set experience. Working in house at a bring in e-commerce studios is also a great starting point. Most brands shoot e-commerce in house and need stylists, set assists etc.
