Any photographers have any tips / tricks for photographing cosmetics & skincare textures? Would really appreciate it!
We will be using a range of products included lipgloss, lipsticks, serums, creams etc.

- @Bhav Sonigra thank you so much!
- I shoot quite a bit of skincare and cosmetics products and what I’ve learnt about shooting textures is use a hard light to really showcase the texture. The direction of the light also is something to consider. With regards to the products, be prepared to improvise and potentially use substitute products. One example is I’ve used shimmer paint from art stores to mimic shimmer serums, because it’s cheaper than the actual product.
- @Indira Birnie thank you! Will do
- @Karolis Jurevicius Thank you! Will check this out for sure! :)
- i recommend following @karen.rosalie on instagram; she's a photographer who often shares tutorials for this kind of thing.
- Check out Karl Taylor's tutorial for cosmetics photography https://youtu.be/eLlR56ZUD4wKarl's light setups are a bit of an overkill for anyone who works with tight time schedules of studio/ecommerce photography but it might have some useful tips that could spark new ideas or help in the future shoots.Good Luck!
