Anyone have advice for a young filmmaker looking to get more experience with commercial & editorial work?

Most of my background is in documentary and news, and I realized I'd like to find a role that emphasizes my creative side a bit more. I'm a recent college grad looking for opportunities in NYC but I'm struggling to find roles that align with my current hopes. Would appreciate any advice! Thanks! :)

  • Hi Trisha, I would look into CNN Style. They produce editorial doc style video content about fashion, design, art, music, architecture all over the world. I used to shoot and edit stuff for them a few years back in London. Maybe they have the opportunity to do some kind of internship or at least get on a shoot and start meeting people? You could find a producer who works for them in NYC and reach out via LinkedIn or even on here if they have a profile?

    Good luck!
  • Hello,
a first step could be looking for an internship in an Adv agency (McCann, Publicis Group, We Are Social, BBDO, Sterling & Cooper etc.) or also in an editorial group like Condé Nast or Hearst Magazine
