Are creative people crazy?
Hello creative souls,
I had this feeling all my life. I am sure you can relate to this. I can't post this question anywhere but here. Since a child, I have been a creative person. Just like you are. I've done many odd jobs to make money. I am a hard worker and a reliable employee. I only got fired once. Currently, I have a very comfortable "social media marketing" job. My work didn't get affected by COVID yet but I secretly pray it does happen. I know! Crazy right. Hang on there's more.
1) I daydream a lot and have deep conversations with me. That's one of the reasons my wife left me.
2) I get offered freelance jobs here and there but I refuse them instantly.
3) I want to draw, animate and tell stories. I have a few on my YouTube channel. Some people even want to pay for me to do animations but I refuse them instantly.
4) I do like money, business and learning about finance but when people want to offer me gigs, I don't want them. WTF
5) I do want to be successful and my art to be known but hate connecting with people.
Am I crazy?

- @John Hogan feels better man. thank you.
- @Grigoris Kampouridis yep! thank you
- @Julian Brown Wow, thanks a lot for sharing this. I will look in to this and let you know how I go. Thanks a lot again.
- @Saumya Sah Most of these projects are boring. There's no connection and the people who wants them get done, sound "dead" and too pushy.
- @Annie Thorpe I think I have this feeling too for some extend. However its amazing to know that when do "apply" it's a positive response. Thanks for sharing!
- @Jamie Scott Because those projects got "NO" soul!
- We are all crazy creatives or not. We are just closer to artists who know it's part of the majesty of creation: being ''outside of the box''...
- No everyone else is.
- Creative people are creative, day and night!
- I don't think crazy is right term. However there is a correlation between aspects of cognitive processing and creativity. Creativity is essentially an arrest of executive function. The description of your experiences and behaviours appear to be at least semi-consistent with some of the diagnostic criteria in Adult ADHD. Have you ever looked into Adult ADHD? Check this site and see if any of it feels familiar to you. https://www.helpguide.org/articles/add-adhd/adhd-attention-deficit-disorder-in-adults.htm
- I’m a freelance designer myself and I understand what do you mean about connecting with people, but over a period of time I’ve realised it really pays off. I’ve also turned down a couple of projects but I had my reasons. So, as long as you can justify the reason, I guess it’s all good.
- If it helps, I find it very hard to both apply for, and respond to enquiries for, freelance gigs. Imposter syndrome kicks in and I immediately think things like "They won't want me", "Loads of people are more qualified", etc. When I *do* apply/respond, the result is 99% favourable, so I have no reason to be thinking these things, really. But many years in employment for some REALLY terrible employers absolutely knocked my confidence and I STILL have their voices in my head sometimes.
- Is there a reason you're turning them down?
