Blog research! When you're stressed, what *really* helps you? There are the quick fixes, like eating chocolate, but what about longer term?

I find setting my personal values has helped me stay on track, both in and out of the workplace, as well as mindfulness, long walks and of course, chocolate!

  • I found it very helpful to face my 'core negative beliefs' to deal with stress. Long story short they are very deep negative toughts about some aspect of our life. By being more aware of them I was able to manage them in two ways. If it's possible to change than work on that if it's not than accepting them.
  • 1/ Long walk - there's scientific evidence somewhere that walking helps free up your mind somehow
2/ Visualise taking a 'helicopter' view of the issues that are stressing you. What's the longer view, the bigger picture, how do these issues fit into your life on a big scale
3/ What are you going to do about it? Give 'nothing' proper consideration, so you're being fair/ kind to yourself if nothing is all you're up for at this point.
4/ Commit to whatever it is you're going to do about it.
    5/ Re-visit when necessary.
    Good luck
  • @Hayley Miller This is exactly how I started! Keep it up girl, you got this!
  • I lift weights when I'm stressed out, it's long term and short term positive solution.
  • When I’m stressed...I like to have me time and do nothing that means to literally walk around or sit. I think of absolutely nothing and be in the present moment.
  • @Suzy Bowtell haha animals really are the best! You're quite right, it does come down to the individual. I've been trying to be more proactive with managing stress factors beforehand, rather than waiting until I am stressed - it's all very interesting!
  • It really depends on you ! Whenever I'm stressed, suggestions like going for a run and meditation frustrate me, because that doesn't work for me - though for the next person, maybe it's everything they need! I love to bake. When I lived with my parents, playing with my dog was a huge stress reliever. Now my only option is to play with my other half's cat, but she's nowhere near as fun...
