Does anyone have advice for someone interested in freelance writing (even low/no pay)? I'm mainly interested in politics/opinion pieces.

I am a graphic designer by day but always enjoyed writing. I feel I get my fill of design within my job, and would love to be able to utlise a different skill outside of my usual working hours. It's moreso I just don't know where to start in terms of picking up any kind of professional experience. Any advice (or even opportunities) would be gratefully recieved!

I currently have a small collection of written pieces on my website: 'http://www.itstomdesign.com/writings'.

  • Hi Thomas,

You could just start writing. With things like Medium and LinkedIn, you can write and post articles without a client or a brief. Then share your writing on social using any hashtags that'd get you noticed in the field you'd like to write more in. You could even research people at companies who might be interested in your writing, and email them showing them what you can do.

    Hope that helps a bit.

    Happy writing!

    Vikki
