Does anyone have any advice for postgrad degrees and funding?

I am starting a Masters in September studying Specialist Journalism! The funding from Student Finance is different which means I need to rely on grants and other types of funding … but I’ve reached a dead end and really need help! My family aren’t in the position to help me financially so I really am relying on grants and other types of funding I can find (as well as looking for part time work too while studying!) Does anyone who has completed a post grad know of any grants that are reliable and I can get? I’m just a little confused!

Thank you so much for any and all help, it really is appreciated!

  • I can't imagine there are widely available grants for postgraduate study in journalism. Is there some indication that they might exist? There will be the odd bursary for some courses offered by some universities but I imagine that you have already looked into it on the course you have chosen?

Another similar possibility is a scholarship - or fully funded postgrad opportunity. You might be eligible but the course offerings might be limited and not what you are looking for.

Alternatively - and I suspect this is how most people fund postgraduate study - is to apply for a Masters loan.
  • @george crisp hi george! thank you so much for this, i’ll definitely check them out! have a great week & take care :)
  • Can't advise on funding but if you're interested in freelancing while you study, you might wish to check out the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.

They're doing good work and it's a great place to start. Good luck.
