  • @Kane Davis Thank you so much Kane. I really appreciate the time you put into this detailed feedback. Especailly all the points about how I can imporve the finer details of the design.
    Once again, thank you!
  • @Jessica Rebelo Thank you for the feed back Jessica, especially the helpful pointers about how I can improve on the details!
  • Hello Olive,

Thanks for sharing your project. Got some feedback for you, this is only what I would do and I will try and keep it as short and sweet as possible but there is a lot of work to cover which is great, just bare with me on the length of the feedback.

Project looks good overall, nice choice on colour palette and your contextual visualisations are great.

Logo: Whilst the crowns type and women illustration are good, the ‘By Ann’ part is incredibly hard to read. I think this is because of the gradient that has been applied to the logo, the shadow, the typeface that you have used and also because the image is slightly blurry, so I would try and export it at a higher resolution to make sure everything is nice and crisp.

A golden rule for branding is to make sure the logo can be read at very small sizes. I would make the ‘By Ann' part in the same typeface (Quicksand) but just in a different weight e.g. italic and also increase the size so that it matches the length of the CRO. Lastly I would actually just use a very light grey or even white for the branding. I appreciate you wanting it to have a silver look, but unfortunately unless you use a silver when printing the logo, the gradient and also shadow fight against each-other making it very difficult to read. Using a single colour will really help with legibility and make the branding look slicker.

Logo variations / colour palette: The layout of these elements is great and good to get a whole sense of the materials that you have designed. I would find an alternative typeface for the AR Berkley, as it is just very difficult to read especially at smaller sizes. Lastly on the logo variations, I would suggest you have the main brand, then the illustration on it’s own like you do and then the CROWNS text on it’s on and that would be your 3 logo variations. Colour palette is nice, but I would just remove the gradient and have a solid colour on the logo. (Just a tip though, if you do have a gradient on the logo, then include this in the colour palette as it is technically part of the branding). Packaging / business card: The packaging looks great and contextual samples are always a great idea. I would try finding better packaging shots where the front of the box is in the light as at the moment the most prominent part is in darkness. (Also this is a great example of making sure your logo is legible at small sizes, as here you can barely make out the ‘By Ann’ strap line). Try graphicburger.com for some great resources. The bag looks nice with the branding on the side, just maybe think about how you can push this further. Should the ends of the bag have the other colours in the palette? Should I have just the illustrations embossed on one side and the logo on the other? Should the illustration be really big and used as a background piece? There are so many different options to consider when it comes to packaging so might be worth exploring that further. The business card is nice, but you have a gradient here that isn’t in the palette, and also the background fights with the logo. It would have much bigger impact to just have the logo in one colour on a solid colour background. You could even try just having the illustration on the front, and then the CROWNS text on the back followed by the details, just something to think about. Advert: Layout is good as you have all the elements you need in the advert. What isn’t clear is what this advert is for? Maybe this should be contextual? If it is a Facebook add, then drop it into Facebook, or if it is a header for a website then drop it into a website header as it is hard to see how effective this might be without the context of where it is going. Lastly the 2 blue bands with the social handles in, the blue should be from the palette so there is consistency and I would make the text on both in the middle of the bands. It is small details like this that will elevate your work and it’s small things like this that people will pick up on. Apologies that there is a lot but I really hope this helps. Let me know if anything doesn’t make sense. Also if you are looking for a resource for high res - free to use nice stock imagery, then I can’t recommend Unsplash.com enough.
  • Hi Olive,

Thanks for sharing your work, I really like the colour palette you are using, it fits the brief and looks soft but stylish, also the cutout silhouette is a great concept for Beauty (I would pay attention of the intricate details and simplified it, so when it's small in business card you can still see the details).

In terms of the choice of typography, I like the contrast of fonts but you are losing readability in the words "by Ann", it's probably a combination of the kind of font and size. I would try a few more different ones and increase the size to get that readability back.

I was wondering if using a gradient and a drop shadow in the logo is maybe too much? I like the gradient as it gives you that luxury feeling that the brand represents and the drop shadow gives that nice metal cutout illusion, but I would explore the drop shadow a bit more, maybe softening it or using another colour that isn't black.

Other than that I think you have a really good start, and it looks great!

    I hope this helped :)
