Hi - I'd be grateful for any advice on how to get into video editing. I've worked in social for a while, but would like to do more video.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give :)

  • I can't recommend Udemy.com highly enough. You can get a 10+ hour course for +-£8, all you need is the software used in the course.

Once you complete the course and grasp the technical basics, I recommend searching for youtube tutorials for doing specific tasks such as transitions, titles, whatever comes to mind really and follow these. This is a great next step, since you move into creating actual usable assets.

I've started like this few years ago and it ended up in me having regular clienetele and utilising these skills in FT jobs too. No need to pay huge sums, initial investment is £8 for the course and £20 monthly subscritpion for the software if you go with Adobe Premere Pro for example - and YouTube is free :)

    Good luck!
  • @Sam Sutherland - I promise the expense is worth it to have someone to interact with and ask questions and presents the whole process as a pro showing their approach from start to finish. It is way better than any tutorials or manuals at least for me. Before I took the course, I would always loose assets or versions along the way and waste creative time trying to find them.
  • I really improved my skills by taking a class from an expert. I attended 10 4 hour group classes which were hosted inexpensively by the local chapter of Women in Film and became 1000% more organized and efficient.
  • Hi Sam, I'm in a similar position where I've worked in Social Media for a while and understand the importance and need for video editing skills. I've seen a few on LinkedIn but if you find anything else let me know as I'd be keen to learn too!
