Hi, what is the opinion on wacom tablets for illustration/artwork for Photoshop? I already have an iPad but I’m curious if I should get one

recently been experimenting with drawing, sketching and typography in Autodesk Sketchbook on my iPad and might invest into Procreate. since I already have an iPad, should i invest into a wacom tablet?

  • @Alissa Colville yes, it has a screen it's also bigger so there's a bigger working space it also has higher pressure levels so it's more varied with you line work and pressure
  • We had the £1299 one for our studio work and sold it to buy the iPad Pro. While they're good, they're cumbersome and need to be plugged in – iPad with a pencil and Procreate is better for drawing and can be taken anywhere you want. So much better. If you want to use it as a second screen and desktop tablet, get a Huion tablet screen – it's like a Wacom, just costs about £250-300 instead. My housemate has an A3 one and it's basically the same experience.
  • I've have a Huron which is a cheaper Wacom tablet, (might be a better option if you're starting out) it was cheaper than my iPad and I use it a lot more than my iPad for digital work, you can also get sketchbook pro on comp it's free and you get more brush options. Hope that helps :)
  • In industry people use wacom tablets but I’m still using my iPad Pro as it’s ease of use is wonderful and innovative stream line processes just as long as you get the task done just as fast that’s all that matters
  • Thanks to everyone for replying! I really appreciate your feedback and advice. I've decided to get a new pencil/stylus for my iPad to continue exploring (as I am still new to this) with the possibility to invest in Procreate! Might try wacom at a later date :D
  • You don't necessarily NEED it if you get photoshop and illustrator for your iPad but for working directing on editing and digital illustration I highly recommend the Wacom
  • Hey @Zena Colville how are you?
I have the two. Personally I love the iPad with procreate, for me is more easy to digital my illustrations, i feel like it stills "artesanal". Besides that, Procreate you pay only once and always have the update, si more cheaper, you can export for phostoshop format, and Procreate handles fonts too. I think igual depends your work method, i used both, but it hards to me to draw in wacom and see the screen. Haha. The wacom it helps to be more quick in my job. And the iPad and pencil i love cause i use for illustrate, and When i wanna make something extra to the Illustration, I export the illustration to photoshop.

It's cool to explore if you hace already the pen for the iPad. ⚡️

    Have a nice day!
