How much would you pay for a photographer + stylist + mua for a 3-hour shoot?

Setting up a photo shoot and wondering what the going fees are for these roles.

  • I shoot fashion for my day job and at the expense of being unpopular you need to consider what you want to achieve, you may be better off specifying the deliverables and price it that way.

Being utterly practical, it will be very likely that your model will spend up to 90 minutes in hair and make up. Unless the lighting is very basic or is hit very quickly you may actually shoot for little more than an hour.

Unless you have 1 or 2 items to shoot the minimum to consider is half a day, 3 hours unless it's a tiny brief is in the almost unviable territory because as an artist you deliver very little and most of the time is spent in preparation.

I would charge considerably more than is being quoted thus far and include a couple of uses in that, if you were looking at point of sale, advertising, promoted social media posts, and campaign work usage would kick in.

What you are buying is the licence to use the artists (photographers - and increasingly the stylists ) intellectual property - just like music, for example streaming for personal use one thing, broadcast and film use is a completely different matter and costs change.

A good artist (photographer), agency model, mua, stylist with prep time, possibly studio hire, equipment (hire), usage, post production, based on half a day you can budget anywhere between £1,500 -£5,000 ex VAT, for a 6 or 12 month licence.

If you want to do it at minimal cost you could use final year students who have all sorts of access to studios and other people through their uni.

To use the music analogy again, just be careful as people compete on price that you are not booking the backing singers rather than the band, particularly if you have something that is high end or a serious brand.
  • It is very informative article I learned a lot after reading your writing. https://the-dots.com/projects/untitled-669601https://muktokosh.com/
  • As a photographer I charge £60 per hour, as this includes the time, equipment, and film I use plus editing time for after the shoot. 😊 (if you still need a photographer - here is my website www.lydsthatpicstook.com)
  • As a makeup aritst I charge £50 an hour on a photoshoot - Photographers and Stylists tend to have a flat rate ususally around the £200-£250 mark so I'd say £500-£600 but that 100% depends on who you hire, how much they charge and their skill set
