I'd like to ask if anyone has any tips on what creative industry to enter using traditional mediums like painting and illustration.

Hi everyone!

I've been creating in the traditional medium for 5 years. My question is, are there any tips I could implement on how to enter into the creative industry? Most of the time, I personally don't see how traditional artists move in the industry and how they first entered it without formal training or previous experience. Some awesome insight would help!

  • Following on from Anna I would definitely recommend editorial or book illustration. I know the magazines I’ve worked for over the years commission a fair amount of illustration work (both digital and traditional). You can always pick up a directory of contacts which will give you the contact details for art directors and editors. The Association of Illustrators used to sell them for a small fee
  • I think you can try the path of the illustration career. If you have a look here https://www.itsnicethat.com/illustration you can see that hand drawn illustrations are getting very popular. You could pick an existing article from The Guardian or other newspaper that has an illustrated article and make your own illustration for it
