I haven't updated my CV since 2015. Does anyone recommend buying creative CV templates? I need some updated guidance I do believe.

I've a fair few freelance hits to slide in between full time positons within the last five years.

  • Hey Aimee, I'm releasing CV and portfolio guides in the next week. YOU can see some more info here www.instagram.com/nikkylylecreative
  • Why be someone else when you can be yourself. A CV needs to bring you to life as you, versus demonstrating how you can conform to someone else's template. Might not be the answer you want.
  • Many applicant tracking software systems can't scan text saved as images. Creative designs that disregard this rule are likely to fail.

Those designs work better when they are assessed by a person rather than a machine. if you do go down that path make sure you test it using a service like jobscan first.

Another easy test is to save your resume file from its current format (pdf, doc, xls) to a *.txt file.

Open the text file using notepad and whatever you see is an approximation of what the software can scan.

I use a limited amount of design (company logos) without altering format (doc) or layout and recommend the same for you.
  • Hi Aimee, I recommend Canva for creative CV templates (free of charge!)!
  • https://zety.com/blog/pages-resume-templates - hi Aimee, try these! You have an option to either buy a sub or download them for free if you provide credit on socials; it's a nice trade-off! Helped someone like me immensely.
