If you're trying to shift into a different sector/ role, do you recommend putting your current profession and/or ideal one on your profile?

  • I would include, as im sure there will be transferable skills you can express that can be utilised in your new field of choice. If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a message.
  • Hi Ira

From my experience, it’s definitely worth remembering that you’re making a transition in these circumstances rather than a giant leap.

As such, it’s a must that you take the skills that you’ve developed PLUS the expectations you have on the new role and match them up.

So, look for real moments of overlap that show your skills and expertise can be applied clearly and impactfully into a new role or sector.

That way, the shift won’t feel so big and any future employers or partners will see the value that your diverse experience can bring (ie your existing skills are a great fit AND coming from a different sector will bring new perspectives and a diversity of thought that will also add value).

I have a free Masterclass on my website that will help you scope this out a bit more.

  • I don't have an answer for you but, I'm interested in the answer. Certainly, in terms of job alerts, I put things I wanted but because I've got a lot of experience, I was finding that in new roles/sectors the alerts I was getting weren't things that I could apply for, they were way outside of my experience. Very interesting to learn how to use the experience we have to move us in a new direction. Good luck.
