Looking for advice on the best way to create a prison for a film production?
I'm in need of a prison location for something I'm filming in the spring. I have already considered the possibility of grabbings some establishing EXT shots of an actual prison and cheating the interiors. But I'm really struggling to find cheat interiors that work.
I am open to the idea of hiring a freelance location scout for this as well, but the project is reletively low budget as it is a self-funded pilot episode of an interactive show and we do have some virtual production filming and plenty of other location filming to do, so I can't "waste" too much money on this relatively small part of the finished product (albeit important!)
Does anyone have any experience with this? Or any advice at all?

- @Sil Mac great idea! We’ve more or less decided to head to Gloucester with mini crew and cast and film for a couple of days in that disused prison! Got a much better quote from them than the London ones and it looks much better as well!
- @Luke Freeman it’s being repaired so they’re not taking bookings for next few months, but thanks for the tip!
- Another idea is to go to junkyards or second hand places that work with demolition and get old railings and gates. It will be more difficult and laborious to assemble the set, but you would have control of the hours and days that iyou team want to shoot.
- Reading Gaol is empty. Maybe you can ask permision to shot there. ;-)
- Look for decommissioned prisons that allow filming on site, know 2019 HMP Holloway has been abondon, could try that.
