Looking for any advice on Community Management!

Books to read, podcasts to listen to etc... Oh... and if anyone is willing to help a gal out who is having major imposter syndrome - please be my mentor ;-)

  • Hey Poppy, Community Club's (https://the.community.club/) Slack channel - has lots of community managers connecting and sharing resources etc. We're starting to do London meet-ups too, there's a Whatsapp group with members if that's something of interest :)
  • With regards to building an engaged community, that can support the values of The Dots, make sure you have a clear community policy that includes these values. I would also suggest including a resource library and volunteering and advocacy tools.
To ensure the community is well moderated and encourage engagement, I think the key is to strike the balance between moderating, contributing, and giving members sufficient freedom to feel like they can express themselves. Make sure you also contribute posts and respond to posts!
Oh and regarding Imposter Syndrome, just change the title to Not Arrogant and you will feel much better!
  • Tom Ross ofa Design Cuts is doing a lot of good work in this area atm (and has grown a large community on Design Cuts) - might be some good nuggets here before a deep dive: https://www.instagram.com/tomrossmedia/?hl=en
