What are the hardest things about moving to a new country?

  • All below. Also understand the different culture ( what is the correct way to address people, what to do/do not do, read between the lines). At the beginning I called people to meet for a coffee for real... then I got it. hahahah. I think it's a good reality check.
  • I moved from the US to the UK in 2012. Even with the big corporate relocation package I had (and it was a blessing!) there are still all sorts of things that can be hard and stressful (but worth it in the end):

    • Moving house is one of the most difficult things that can happen to a relationship. It's in the top 10, top 5 I think of why couples break up.
    • Decluttering (which can be a joy) and packing (which is always a pain) is very hard work.
    • If you're moving with a pet then you have the added worry of their safety during travel and likely not being with them.
    • Navigating complicated VISA systems and policies is probably even harder and more stressful than all of the rest combined. Your safety and legal right to be somewhere is literally in someone else's hands. It can be very terrifying.
