What does being BOLD mean to you?

We hear it all the time; "be yourself, get out there, be different, embrace yourself" but when you do society pushes back. Be bold but not too bold, be different but not too different, and be yourself but only if it's common.

But that space of "normal" and "safe" can hinder creativity and imagination. The ones who step out are the ones who create the best art known to man. All the most influential people were the bold ones.

What does being bold mean to you?

  • Boldness by definition is a willingness to take risks - and you define those risks.

The late, great David Bowie described it quite nicely when speaking about his lifelong creative process…

“Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.”

With that in mind and in keeping with the water- based themes; Boldness to me is having the confidence to test the water and then the courage in my ability to ride that wave.
  • 'Bold' to me is looking at the usual speaking confident characters in the room and thinking why not just go for it and say what's on my mind? And doing it!

Everyones back stories and experiences are so different - yours are always valid, doesn't matter what other people think and whether they try to bring you down; that's a reflection on them and not you.

Remember why you started, and why you chose to evolve and carry on doing what you do :)
  • "Bold" — for me — is whenever I take a risk that makes me stop and think! If I have concerns, and go for it, then I think that was bold. It's slightly different for everyone dependant on your comfort zone.
  • Such a great question!

For me it's learning to listen to your inner voice (most likely your inner child). And I mean really listen. Listen to that guiding light inside you and follow through. Then acknowledge that following through is scary and hard but doing it anyway. All the while not caring about following trends or pleasing everyone - that last bit is impossible. So focus on who you want to please, the first person being yourself. That's being bold to me.
  • It means to do things differently, in order to stand out from the crowd. This doesn't have to mean wildly creative concepts, it might just mean a subtle change, but something that differentiates you from others. A point of difference, a talking point.
  • it means to connect with my heart, to hear the inner calling and then to be couragous in following it. despite what might follow - resistance - beyond it all only i know the gifts, treasures and joy that will be gifted to me as i take a step, following the path of my heart. that is bold!
