What is the best way to convert an Affinity Design (.afdesign) file to Adobe psd or ai or even a pdf?
I use Adobe not Affinity but have been sent .afdesign files from a new client whose previous designer used Affinity

- An interesting question! When I need to convert documents, I usually rely on Secure Statement Converter https://securestatementconverter.com I can say with confidence that they use the latest encryption standards to ensure data security.
- @Kitty Newton Good luck!
- @Sandrine Bascouert that's so kind of you. I have just downloaded the program and I think I have it all working! Thank you for your help!
- @Kitty Newton Yes I have both!(If you want to DM me so I can convert for you, no problem, I'll leave you with the tweaking :) )
- @Sandrine Bascouert thank you for the advice that's really helpful, do you use Affinity yourself?
- @Anna Negrini thank you for the link, it looks like a free trial is my best option.
- @Sandrine Bascouert I must add, if you simply need a PDF, and not necessarily need to open it in say - photoshop or illustrator, then it works 100%. There are tons of options in affinity designer to export a PDF to fit your needs. (it's when you have to amned that PDF in another software that the problem lays)in AD: File>export>choose your file format
- Hi Kitty,You'll only be able to convert afdesign (and afpublisher) files to a readable Adobe one by converting to .eps or .pdf first (You could do with .svg too, but I wouldn't recommend it)As Anna said, there is a free trial version of Affinity for you to test that out, or ask the client to export as a .psf or .eps first. That said, even after conversion, you're very likely to have some tweaking to do (particularly if there is some text involved). It's not a matching conversion by any means. (I get asked by some clients and I be sure I add the relevant cost to the bill)Hope it helps!
- I think you can have an Affinity Design free trial https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/90-day-affinity-trial/ then you can export an IDML file to open in InDesign or export as PDF
- Hey Kitty, so.... I don't use Affinity to get that caveat out of the way first! It appears from a bit off googling that you may well struggle, two options I can think of are:1. Ask the client to get the original designer to supply the PDF or PSD as they can export/save it out of Affinity.2. Buy a copy of Affinity if it may be an issue again with this client, they are currently doing a 50% off offer so it's about £25Just my 2p
