What should a portfolio website include to interest people/potential employers? How many pieces of art/projects should be included?

  • My best advice is to have a look at the websites you like and break them down.

-One of the most important pages is your about page. People want to know who you are.
    - Write about your work - this will help with your SEO
    - Photoshop your work onto magazine/ packaging so that less creative people can easily imagine it.
    - Between 10-25 artworks is probably a good thing to work towards. But you can always start with less and build it up. Having 10 good images is probably better than 25 medium ones. :-)
-Choose a design/template which makes you art look best! Large images and lots of space to enjoy them.

I hope this helps. My website is idahenrich.com - Let me know if you have any questions. :-)

  • Hi George. The way you present your work is more important than the amount of work. Good descriptions, context and even some process images help potential clients understand the way you work more than just a single image per a project.
  • Perhaps work out your own USP (Unique Selling Proposition)
It may help to center you thoughts and process

Eg: Your strongest skills - Really good at illustrating children
Best idea - The one where they are playing catch
Most passionate about - What colours used

Then use the best pieces of works which exploits this in your portfolio
They're not just looking at portfolio but your personilty too should come across
