Book now to participate in a four-session seminar series on the foundations of photographic and moving image practice.

About this event
What is the difference between a still image and a moving image in the landscape of documentary photography? How can you embark on a career that incorporates both photography and film? What are the key elements of a successful commercial shot which incorporates both still and moving image elements? And what is the best way to get your moving image piece in front of a large audience?
In this seminar, each attendee will be able to hear guidance and advice on the ever-evolving relationship between documentary filmmaking and photography. It is aimed at both photographers who increasingly use moving image and filmmakers who use photography in their practice.
Featuring lectures, case studies, guidelines and examples to help participants understand and apply the concepts covered, the seminar will be led by experts in the field who will provide valuable insights and advice on how to use a multidisciplinary approach in an artistic marketplace which demands practitioners to take on new mediums to express their ideas in different formats.
In the four-session course, filmmakers and Magnum photographers such as Gregory Halpern and Jim Goldberg will discuss how they started mixing and using moving images and still photography. Moreover, we will hear from the Magnum Learn team on the growing demand of video production in commercial projects. They will share valuable insight from planning to post-production of advertising campaigns that use both photography and video. Lastly, we will be joined by curators, film programmers and distributors with an aim to demystify the process of entering festivals, as well as distribution and marketing in the film industry.
