A powerhouse panel discussion and Q&A: Can we fulfill our life's purpose with the work we get paid to do?

About this Event

Is it possible to find fulfillment through our work? If we don't feel fulfilled in our work, do we need to change our job? What role do employers play in offering us a sense of fulfillment? Join this fascinating debate with an expert panel as we explore the relationship between work and purpose. Share your thoughts and questions, and leave the discussion feeling inspired and ready to pursue your purpose, with purpose.

The event will be hosted on zoom. We will send the link for registration on the day of the event.

Ben Keene has spent 20 years working to create positive impact through startups and adventures. In 2006, Ben co-founded Tribewanted - an ambitious crowd-funding eco-tourism project that built an online and on-island (in Fiji) village. Ben has helped over 500 founders get their ideas out into the world through the Escape School (Escape the City) and in the last 5 years as a business advisor and mentor at Virgin Startup. His main focus today is building a global non-fiction reading (and doing) community, Rebel Book Club and he is, finally, about to launch a new podcast called Tribe Builders, sharing the stories and learnings from the people who have successfully built purposeful communities.

Skye Robertson has helped thousands of people escape their jobs and start new careers and businesses through her work as Head of the Escape School and now COO at Escape the City. Skye designed the Career Change and Startup Accelerator Programmes both in London and NYC. Prior to her work at Escape the City, Skye worked at national enterprise campaign Startup Britain and think tank Centre for Entrepreneurs, traveling across the country designing initiatives to help support entrepreneurial ambitions across the UK, as well as researching and formulating policies to make the UK the best place in the world to start a business. Skye is also a Business Advisor on Facebook’s She Means Business campaign, for Young Enterprise working with young people to help them realise their entrepreneurial ambitions, and with social enterprise The Platform helping long term unemployed to launch social ventures. Skye also sits on the advisory board of The Entrepreneurs Network, a think tank working on entrepreneurial policy and the secretariat for the APPG in Entrepreneurship.

Tom Poldre is the Director of Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs at B Lab UK, the team behind the B Corp movement here. His “pursuit of purpose” is about applying a deep background in communications – from advertising to PR to corporate, gained internationally in agency and diverse public / private sector and not-for-profit environments – to help create the systems change needed in this time of planetary and societal crisis. Tom’s quest for personal and professional alignment has evolved: from padding his portfolio of work in the consumer marketing field; to broadening his skill set while sharing his knowledge as a communications trainer and university lecturer, to striving to see his personal values reflected in work. Now, his purpose is one of supporting the B Corp mission, while his true passion is focused on mentoring and developing the next generation of communications talent to become a force for good.
