Role purpose and overview
As an Assistant News Editor, you'll be responsible for assisting the news editor and deputy news editor to create, plan and execute daily news coverage for the Telegraph website and newspaper.

Ensuring Telegraph.co.uk website News page is up to date with breaking news and exclusive stories.
Liaising with other departments: video, SEO, social to ensure best possible coverage of, and audience for, news stories.
Liaising with specialist journalists and reporters to work on stories and plan coverage.
Taking charge of the Telegraph news output in absence of news and deputy news editor and, when required on rota, at weekends.
Occasionally attending conference and planning meetings on behalf of the newsdesk, presenting plans to the editor and other senior editorial staff, in absence of news editor and deputy news editor.
Experience of reporting or working on a news desk at regional or national level.
Ability to seek out exclusive and breaking stories.
Experience of planning coverage of future news events and preparing diary items of news.
Experience of working to tight daily deadlines.
Strong ability to write and edit articles clearly, concisely and to house style.
Be familiar with and have experience of digital storytelling techniques.
