The Role
WIRED is looking for an experienced journalist to work across its multiple platforms. The successful candidate will be a highly literate team player who is full of ideas, always curious, and very energetic. A passion for technology, innovation, and consumer tech is a must, as is an eye for detail.
The role will be writing news stories, opinion pieces, and features for WIRED’s Gear section, as well as reviews and how-tos, across print, digital, and video, and supporting the Gear editor, commissioning and editing gear content on wired.com.
The Team
The candidate will be part of WIRED’s global Gear team in office locations across London, New York, and San Francisco. This role will be based in the London office.
What will you be doing?
  • The candidate will be expected to generate Gear stories suitable for multiple formats and which range from timely, uncovered angles on up-to-the minute news, to forward-thinking pieces that identify must-know future trends—all backed up with meticulous reporting.
  • As well as writing duties, they will be expected to commission and brief freelancers, edit and publish copy from both freelancers and staffers, and deputise for the Gear editor in their absence.
  • They will need to understand the importance of self-reliance in delivering quality, accurate copy at speed to meet deadlines—all while maintaining a positive, upbeat attitude.
  • Our Associate Editor will need to enjoy a challenge as this role will be busy and demanding—but also very enjoyable and a great opportunity to play a part in shaping WIRED’s future.
You will have:
  • Experience in technology news journalism, ideally 3 years in consumer products or a similar field
  • Evidence of strong reporting, editing, and commissioning skills
  • Excellent time management
  • Ability to deliver clean, fact-checked copy
  • Deep understanding of WIRED content and the broader WIRED brand
  • Brimming with actionable ideas on how WIRED can make the most of its content and resources across a wide range of digital formats
  • Working knowledge of affiliate and CMS systems an advantage
