The Role
The V&A is the world’s leading museum of art, design, and performance. We care for 2.8 million objects that span over 5,000 years of human creativity. We are a family of museums including V&A South Kensington, V&A Dundee, V&A Collection at World of Wedgwood in Stoke-on-Trent, Young V&A in Bethnal Green, and V&A East Museum and V&A East Storehouse in Stratford, east London (both opening spring 2025). The V&A’s Collections Division comprises four Curatorial departments and departments devoted to Research, NAL and V&A Archives, and to Conservation and Collections Care & Access. These teams are at the heart of the founding purpose of the museum: to care for, research, develop and exhibit the collections for the benefit of the public, to make them available for study and research, and to broaden access to the collections for all. This is one of thirteen Curator posts that sit in the Performance, Furniture, Textiles & Fashion Department, (PFTF). The post holder will be part of the team delivering the redesign of the Fashion Gallery (one of the Museum’s most visited spaces), scheduled to reopen in mid-2027. As the V&A has curators who cover Asia and Global Africa, this new post is focussed on Latin American contemporary textiles and fashions, from creative practice to critical theory, with an emphasis on Brazil or Mexico. Working closely with Senior Curators, they will contribute to the research, development, presentation, interpretation, and associated documentation relating to the new narratives, design and content of the Fashion Gallery. The post holder will also work in concert with colleagues to identify and process potential acquisitions that tell meaningful stories about global fashions. An important part of this role is liaising with high level stakeholders and partners, who are both internally and externally involved in the project. The post holder must have demonstrable expertise in contemporary textiles and fashions of a region of the Global South with a preference for Latin America, particularly Brazil and Mexico. Priority will be given to applicants with lived experience. However all applicants must have the right to work in the UK. This is 36month FTC. Applications close 12 June @ 23:59
