Networks drives a leading-edge technology strategy to underpin transformation and growth through our Business and Consumer customer facing units. We have around 7,500 colleagues in the unit, with engineering at its heart.
Network Services (NS) is the largest team in Networks and brings together the design, delivery and operations teams. NS plays a significant role in building, monitoring and maintaining the infrastructure that keeps the UK running, whether on broadband or mobile, copper or 5G. We keep people entertained by enabling TV services, help save lives by keeping the 999 service up and running, and we keep the UK functioning, supporting key national infrastructure with our office and field based teams.
We need to make sure we’re telling our brilliant and compelling story that sets out our technology agenda for BT Group as well our specific Networks priorities and achievements to create a community of advocates. And that’s where you come in.
As the internal communications manager, Network Services, you’ll
  • Contribute strategic advice and thought leadership, as a member of the NS leadership team, to build the engagement and advocacy needed to deliver our ongoing transformation in this area.
  • Spot the stuff we need to share and know how to say ‘no’ to anything that doesn’t help improve understanding of the bigger picture and drive advocacy among our people
  • Contribute as a core member of the Networks internal communications team leading on elements of the Networks-wide IC plan.
  • Line manage two Internal comms professionals
What you’ll be doing
  • Create an annual IC plan for NS that ties back to Networks and BT Group’s broader IC plans, working closely with the Principal internal communications to make sure it all stacks up 
  • Create and deliver any bespoke comms activity for NS - including any strategic projects or function initiatives - making sure they’re on brand and support our IC principles
  • Be a trusted advisor to your stakeholders, providing constructive challenge whenever required and spot-on advice on comms best practice and channel strategies to improve their understanding of the bigger comms picture
  • Proactively share any brilliant work from Network Services back into the Networks and/or BT Group corporate IC team.
  • Seek feedback and insight on IC activities and constantly look for new ways of doing things, in pursuit of making our IC team one of the best in the industry.
  • Be a collaborative member of the wider internal comms and corporate affairs teams, happy to muck in to drive the wider team’s success.
  • Be a firm advocate for BT Group and the stuff we deliver for our employees, sharing best practice with the wider Networks internal communications team, and learning from other comms teams across BT Group.
The skills you'll need
  • Strong experience of working in internal communications with a passion for telling good stories that cut through the noise of day to day life in a big organisation with international audiences.
  • Evidence of owning, driving and building advocacy for an inspiring comms strategy during significant business  transformational change.
  • Top-notch planning abilities - able to see the bigger picture and the finer detail and manage multiple internal comms projects at any one time.
  • Collaborative – evidence of working brilliantly with colleagues at all levels of the business
  • Excellent stakeholder management, at all levels
  • Ability to break down complicated, technical and corporate speak into engaging communications 
  • Excellent understanding of internal communications tools and techniques, and good experience of a variety of comms channels.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Be experienced in advising the best way to land messages, working across wide range of internal channels and skilled in creating brilliant communications. 
  • Creative thinking – able to find creative solutions to issues and always looking for new and fresh ideas to improve internal comms activities and drive advocacy. 
  • People manager experience would be great as this role will manage one colleague
