We are seeking to appoint a Merchandiser to join Tate Commerce’s Book Team to assist us with our ambitious plans to further grow the book sales in our shops to support Tate’s mission and programme.
Reporting to the Head of Book Sales & Buying: Retail, a Book Merchandiser ensures the efficient and timely management of book ranges, book orders and book returns and closely analyses, monitors and responds to sales patterns. A Book Merchandiser demonstrates initiative and is proactive in communicating and collaborating effectively across several departments and teams.
The ideal candidate would join a creative team creative team that they will support by:
  • Generating maximum sales and profit for Tate through efficient, methodical, and strategic work and outstanding service to visitors, customers and colleagues.
  • Managing the day-to-day work of managing stock availability, stock levels and placement across several shops and locations at Tate Modern and Tate Britain and to support Tate Liverpool and Tate St Ives when required.
  • Reporting on sales and stock, identify opportunities and patterns, improve stock-turn, maintain stock holding targets.
  • Being fully accountable for creating unique and profitable stock packages and offers including themed selections, promotions and exhibition ranges.
  • Communicating and collaborating with wider network including suppliers, publishers, shop teams, e-commerce, visual merchandising, warehouse, publishing, accounts, merchandise and product, and all gallery departments.
  • Fully engaging in Tate's mission to deepen and enrich people's experience and understanding of art.
  • Being positively engaged in promoting art, books and reading for all and seeking to enable access to high quality publications, emergent ideas and significant work in art and culture to everyone.
The successful candidate will ideally be an experienced merchandiser with some buying experience who has worked in bookselling and/or the book trade. They will be able to demonstrate a high level of skills in communication, relationship management, anticipating challenges and finding solutions.
They will have excellent IT skills, be numerate, organised, and have an eye for detail, enjoy analysing patterns and trends and set out to solve new challenges and improve existing processes to increase sales, maximise profit, reach and reputation.
The role is important in helping to maintain Tate's commercial success and to provide dependable and sustainable revenue for the gallery. You will be involved at an exciting and busy time with the opportunity to make a valuable contribution.
