At a glance:
  • Salary range - The budgeted salary range for this role is set at £42,700 - £52,000 (dependant on experience)
  • Contract type - This position is a Secondment/Fixed Term contract until June 2025 (maternity cover)
  • Working pattern/flexible working - We know flexible working is important to you, and it is important to us too. The Partnership has adopted a blended working approach meaning you'll be able to work a mixture between the office and home based upon your personal needs whilst balancing the needs of the business. The Paid Search team aims for around 1 day per week in the office to connect and on a more ad-hoc basis to attend key meetings but again, are flexible on this.
  • Location - This role is based at our Victoria Head Office campus. Please note, any cost incurred as a result of travel to the office is the responsibility of the successful candidate.
About the role:
As the PPC Manager, you will be responsible for proactively planning, optimisation and execution of the paid search strategy. You will also operationally deliver inhouse paid search campaigns to drive marketing efficiency whilst supporting market share ambition and customer conversion.
What will you be doing?
  • A leadership role within the Paid Search team to inspire, coach and develop a team of subject matter experts to deliver John Lewis customer goals within the overall context of balancing sales and contribution whilst delivering a consistent brand and Partner experience
  • Responsible for liaising with key external stakeholders to ensure relationships are commercially sustainable and relationships are nurtured. Uses all aspects of paid search to drive cost effective sales and conversions. Understands the key levers, tools and reports to drive incremental gains
Key responsibilities:
  • Responsible for bid optimisation tools and understands how to deliver best in class campaigns. Test and learn to capture early competitive advantage and ensure robust hypotheses deliver insightful results.
  • Accountable for efficient spend in paid search, through forecasting and budget management, using attribution techniques, ROI modelling, setting, evolving and monitoring bid rules to ensure campaign optimisation in the short, mid and long term
  • Accountable for ensuring accurate tracking to provide confidence that decisions are data driven, landing pages are optimised and keyword coverage is informed through accurate reporting and informed beyond last click
  • Accountable for delivering a robust solution for capturing insights, analysing results and cascading knowledge to the relevant teams to demonstrate the omnichannel value of paid search activities to wider stakeholders. Champion budget and resource requirements. Take learnings and insight to determine and shape future plans and roadmaps
  • Be a thought leader in paid search, recommending paid search techniques and tools, informing business cases
  • Deliver and present regular analysis and KPI reporting to tell the story focusing on key learnings, provide market context or future opportunities which will assist in quick decision-making, unlock budget / supplier funding or assist in course correcting performance to mitigate risk
  • Executes audience targeting strategies and experienced DMP user. Drives customer acquisition, purchase frequency and improving media efficiency by intelligently utilising John Lewis customer data sets
  • Instils a culture of high performance and customer centric thinking across their immediate team and cross functionally. Works with channel and campaigns team to ensure joined up targeting, content and communication and efficient ways of working. Drives for continual improvement in team performance and encourages development of self and others, cultivating a collaborative and motivated team environment
Essential skills you’ll need:
  • Marketing/Business related degree or equivalent experience
  • Paid search expert with demonstrable experience managing enterprise level accounts, bid optimisation tools and creating strategy
  • Experience of SA360 and able to manage bid strategies
  • Experience working with e-commerce brands and Google Shopping/PMAX campaigns
  • Experience of creative thinking, delivering inspiring and relevant content whilst managing data
  • Experienced knowledge of the latest developments within paid search and experience of leading paid search teams, coaching and developing individuals and optimisation techniques
  • Experience of understanding customers, tone of voice and ability to drive performance whilst protecting brand values
  • Experience of multiple stakeholder management
  • Experienced paid search thinker who consistently is looking to find incremental gains and uses innovation to drive the performance agenda
  • Experience of reviewing numbers and turning insights into actionable plans
Desirable skills you’ll have:
  • Strong online experience within retail
  • Demonstrable understanding of how digital marketing channels work and can influence customer engagement
  • Experience of acting as a consultant to stakeholders who need deeper understanding of the role of paid search
  • Evidence of negotiating commercially compelling agreements
